Retail sales in Japan higher than expected…

Japanese retail sales up by 1.9% in January

According to METI (Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry) in Japan retail sales rose at annual pace of 1.9% in January, continuing December’s increase by 2.5%.

Today’s data is highly exceeding expectations for -0.2% reading.

The biggest rise was recorded in automobiles sales. That sector grew by 24.3%, the highest since 1990.
