Euro area retail sales in May 2012 rose more than estimated. European Union’s statistics office- Eurostat informed that on monthly basics index improved by 0.6%, instead of 0.2% growth expected. April’s data was adjusted today to 1.4% decline. Retail sales fell year on year in the euro area for the fifth time by 1.7% in May, after a decrease the previous month by 3.4%. In the EU-27 retail sales increased by seasonally adjusted 0.6%. Year over year sales dropped by 0.3%, after declining by 2.4% in April.
