More Americans than expected applied for unemployment benefit last week.

U.S. jobless claims dropped

For the week ending 31st of March initial jobless claims in U.S. declined by 6 000 and totaled at 357 000, which is below economists’ expectations.

As the Labor Department announced today the number of people who applied for unemployment benefit previous week was revised to 359 000.

The average claims (four week data) declined to 361 750.

Continuing claims also dropped to 3.34 million, below 3.35 forecasted.
